Dr Ambedkar Library in India receives
books from Windhorse Publications

As a part of helping to make the Dharma accessible, Windhorse Publications was very proud to provide the Dr BR Ambedkar Library in Pune, India with copies of many of our titles.

Here we see Dh Jnanaraja, Librarian (right) and Dh Jnanadut, Asst Librarian, unpacking and classifying these new additions to their holdings.

The library provides a vital resource for people eager to learn about the Dharma, particularly those from some of the most disadvantaged sectors of Indian society. Read more about Dr Ambedkar, the first Law Minister of independent India and peaceful revolutionary who led thousand of his fellow Indians to Buddhism, in the books listed below.

We are grateful for all the work that the Dr Ambedkar Library does and for all workers in the Dharma.

Dr Ambedkar and Buddhism is the remarkable and stirring story of India's first Law Minister, Dr B.R. Ambedkar, who started the most important social revolution occurring in India today: the conversion to Buddhism of millions of Indians wishing to escape the degradation of the caste system.

Sangharakshita, the author, knew Ambedkar personally, and himself played an important part in the mass conversion movement that Ambedkar set in motion.

Jai Bhim! means 'Victory to Bhimrao Ambedkar!'. With this greeting and parting, millions of new Buddhists in India recall and remind themselves and each other of the non-violent revolution Dr BR Ambedkar led in India in the 1950s - for them. For Dr Ambedkar, a member of the Dalit community, asked his people to find dignity, strength and prosperity for themselves not through violent struggle but through the peaceful means of Buddhism.

Travelling around the Buddhist localities, in city slums and remote villages, meeting and living with Ambedkar's contemporary followers, Terry Pilchick gained an intimate impression of their extraordinatry world, and of the unique revolution they are building. In a colourful, moving and sometimes humourous account, he takes us into that world, allowing us to the witness the revolution for ourselves.
