Buddhist Action Month (BAM) is coming in June! BAM gives us a chance to focus on raising awareness of issues that affect the Earth and its inhabitants, in addition to finding creative and helpful responses.

We at Windhorse Publications would like to highlight relevant books which can help us explore living more ethically.  Here are some titles which address the question, ‘How can we live ethically from a place of compassion?’

  • The Bodhisattva Ideal by Sangharakshita – How can we be happy and at the same time responsive to the suffering of others? It can be done: This is the message of the Bodhisattva ideal.
  •  The Buddha on Wall Street by Vaḍḍhaka Linn – Can Buddhism help us build something better than our current economic system, to reduce suffering and help the individual to freedom? In this thought-provoking work, Vaḍḍhaka Linn explores answers to this question by examining our economic world from the moral standpoint established by the Buddha.
  • Vegetarianism by Bodhipaksa – By considering why people eat meat and relating this to Buddhist ethics, Bodhipaksa explores habits and the possibility of change. He takes a positive view of the benefits of vegetarianism, and shows practically how to maintain a healthy and balanced vegan or vegetarian lifestyle.
  •  Saving the Earth by Akuppa – Filled with practical tips and insightful reflections, Saving the Earth provides tools for change while showing how the Buddhist philosophies of interconnectedness and compassion are of immense use in our efforts towards preserving the Earth.
