Kulananda was born in South Africa in 1954 and emigrated to Britain in 1972. Ordained in 1977, he spent many years assisting in the development of what is now the Triratna Buddhist Community. Amongst other things, he worked as Sangharakshita’s secretary, co-founded Windhorse:Evolution and the Cambridge Buddhist Centre, was president of various Triratna Centres and was a member of the College of Public Preceptors.

More recently he has worked teaching mindfulness and related approaches in the context of organisational leadership. Kulananda and his wife Dhirangama live in Cambridge, UK.
