On March 15th, Windhorse Publications will be releasing the new edition of Kamalashila’s Buddhist Meditation: Tranquillity, Imagination and Insight. First published in 1991, the book is a comprehensive and practical guide to Buddhist meditation, providing a complete introduction for beginners, as well as detailed advice for experienced meditators seeking to deepen their practice. Kamalashila explores the primary aims of Buddhist meditation: enhanced awareness, true happiness, and – ultimately – liberating insight into the nature of reality.
This third edition includes new sections on the importance of imagination, on Just Sitting, and on reflection on the Buddha. It outlines the particular way in which the Triratna community approaches meditation, all the while contextualizing this approach within the wider Buddhist tradition. In this way, it makes an important and unique contribution to Buddhist meditation literature in the West.
‘This enhanced new edition guides readers more clearly into the meditations and draws out their significance more fully. Kamalashila has also woven in an appreciation of a view of the nature of the mind that in the Western tradition is known as the imagination, helping make an accessible link to our own philosophical and cultural traditions.’ – Lama Surya Das
From 15th March, Kamalashila’s Buddhist Meditation: Tranquillity, Imagination and Insight will be available to purchase at your local Triratna bookshop and from the Windhorse Publications website: http://www.
